Everyone living in the Netherlands must have a basic health insurance policy. Deadline: 1 February after arrival. Average cost: €130–160/month. You may qualify for a subsidy (zorgtoeslag) if your income is low.
If you become sick or injured and can't work, you receive nothing — no employer, no UWV. AOV (Arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering) pays 70–80% of your income. Cost: €80–250/month depending on age and income.
